Marcelo Leslabay




Marcelo Leslabay (Buenos Aires, 1960) is graduate in Industrial Design for the National University of La Plata (Argentina) and followed studies of Doctorate in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In 1988 he established himself at Madrid and in 1994 adopted the Spanish nationality.

For more than 20 years he has been working in different areas of the design linked to the project and management, specializing in exhibitions commissariat, consultancy, journalism and teaching. Marcelo is partner founder of Di_Mad- Designers Association of Madrid.

Leslabay Diseño

• He conducts Leslabay Diseño, a consultancy firm specialized in industrial design, expositive design and visual communication that offers services to companies and institutions in Spain and Latin America.

• Among its clients: Fujitsu, Banesto, Zanussi, France Alcatel, Renfe, LKS Ingeniería, DDi - State Society for the Development of Design and Innovation, National Museum of Ornamental Arts of Madrid, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, German Institute of Madrid and the Government of Canary Islands.

Commissariat

• He has organized international meetings and has been the curator in several design exhibitions.

• He has collaborated with the Vitra Design Museum of Germany in the organization of expositions in Spain, Portugal and Latin America.

• ¡Ahora Diseño! Organized by the Spanish Youth Institute -Injuve– of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (2002). He was responsible for the exposition design as well as the exhibition curator.

• «Proyecta. Diseño Español. Una nueva generación» Organized by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2002-2005). Curator and exhibition designer. Proyecta was exposed in Bogota, Miami, Mexico DF, Costa Rica, La Habana, Cordoba, Rosario, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Lima, Rio do Janeiro and São Paulo.

• «Art by Miele» in the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid (2003). Exhibition curator.

• «Biennale Internationale Design Saint Etienne», France. Exhibition curator for the Spanish section during 2002, 2004 and 2006 editions.

• «Miriam Ocariz. De la idea a la pasarela» Contemporary Art Room of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (2005). He was in charge of the exposition design as well as the exhibition commissariat.

• «Injuve Concurso de Diseño 2006”. Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid (2006). Exhibition curator.

• «Living Spain» Biennale Internationale Design Saint Etienne». France (2006). Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain. Exhibition curator and exposition designer. «Living Spain» will tour various European cities, with an itinerary to be defined that will extend into the year 2007.

• Since 1992 until 2004, Marcelo Leslabay was the Sub director of the Experimenta Editorial, which is specialized in Design, Architecture, Communication and Culture of the Design. Experimenta publishes the magazines “Experimenta”, “Industria & Diseño”, “Gráfica & Diseño”. All these are bimonthly publications and their distribution is nation and worldwide.

• His articles have been published in different prestigious specialized media and he has been invited for several universities and museums from Spain and Latin America as lecturer and member of jury at international contests.

• Nowadays he collaborates with different media of Spain, Italy, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and Chile.

• He develops interviews to designers and industry managers for the web site of the State Society for the Development of Design and Innovation (DDi) - www.ddi.es

Teaching experience

• In 1984 he started its teaching work in Industrial Design at the National University of La Plata and in 1988 at the National University of Buenos Aires (UBA), both in Argentina.

• Between 1992 and 2001 he was professor of Design Elements and Psychosociology of the Environment in the School of Ornamental Arts of Madrid.

• He has organized and dictated several international workshops in Buenos Aires, Bogota, Costa Rica, Santiago, Cordoba, Lima, Rio do Janeiro, São Paulo and Pereira.

At the present, Marcelo Leslabay is invited professor in the School of Ornamental Arts of Madrid, the European Institute of Design, the Carolina Foundation, the Master DIA- Design of Architectural Illumination - of the ETSAM and in the Antonio de Nebrija University, at Madrid.
